Back in the early sixties, the Celtic folk revival was beginning to take root and flower. The Dubliners, Johnny McEvoy, Paddy Reilly and others began to rekindle the long neglected tradition of ballad singing, that ancient art form which, for centuries, had entertained High Kings and lowly peasants alike. Full square beside them stood The Wolfe Tones. No longer would our folk music become a mere footnote in Irish history but would remain an intrinsic part of Irish culture and influence generations of musicians along the way. We have a lot to thank them for. |
